"Below The Surface: A History in Printmaking" with founder Curlee Raven Holton

Raven Editions founder Curlee Holton presents "Below The Surface: A History in Printmaking" for the Appraisers Association of America on September 22nd.

In “Below The Surface: A History in Printmaking,” Holton introduces the various traditional and contemporary printmaking processes that have allowed artists the freedom and agency to broaden their visual language and explore collaboration in experimental ways.

Looking at African American artists in particular, it delves into the historical contributions that African American artists like that of Henry O. Tanner, Hale Woodruff, Dox Thrash, Robert Blackburn, and many others have brought to the print medium.

Roughly 50 scholars, appraisers, and art-lovers alike attended the presentation and were able to ask some one-on-one questions with Holton during the Q & A portion. In Holton’s closing statements he suggested that it was vital to consider the ways in which appraising and collecting artwork must adapt as we move forward into an age of NFTs and digital art-commerce.
